Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised
From September 2021, we will be following the new phonics scheme produced by Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised. To help give your child the best start with their phonics, there is a page on the Little Wandle website dedicated to supporting parents and can be found here: https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/. With a wealth of resources, you will be able to watch, understand and correclty reinforce the teaching we deliver in school.
A little bit of phonics explained...
In phonics we have phonemes and graphemes.
Phonemes are the smallest units of speech. Phonemes are put together to make words e.g. 'th-i-nk'.
Graphemes are the letters we read or write down to represent the phoneme. Graphemes are essentially our alphabet.
Within this, there are also digraphs and trigraphs.
Digraphs are two letters that create one sound e.g. 'ch'
Trigraphs are three letters that create one sound e.g. 'ear'
